Exciting news on the bird scene!
A White-Winged Flufftail was spotted at King Shaka Airport recently. Initially seen in the vleis around Durban, the last reported sighting was by A. Millar, over 100 years ago, leading scientists to question records of its existence in the area.
A decade ago, B. Taylor also reported seeing a Flufftail in the coastal wetlands of Mfabeni, St Lucia.
Marius van Rooyen, Senior Wildlife Control Officer, reported that a flufftail was positively identified on site in the high security areas at the airport.
